Blue Jays 10 Eagles 9 (9 Innings)

The Blue Jays were at the Eagles in their first game since June 25th and despite building an 8 to 2 lead after 4 innings the signs of rust were showing.  After Doug Rutter rattled Jim O'Brien in the fifth inning with a line drive up the middle the Eagles came on strong.  The Eagles managed 2 runs in the sixth inning and then four more in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.  The Eagles came within a foot of winning the game in the seventh when, with a runner on third and 2 outs, a long fly ball down the third base line was dropped but instead of bringing home the winning run the ball was just foul and with 2 strikes the side was retired.   Both teams scored a run in the 8th inning.  In the ninth inning Fred Weiner's single drove home Jack McNulty and the Jays defense tightened up in the bottom of the ninth to hold on for a 10 to 9 win.

Fred Weiner was the leading hitter for the smaller birds going 3 for 4.  Jack McNulty and Jim O'Brien were both 2 for 4 with a double but the bird's major contributions came from the middle and bottom of their batting order.  Eddie Schmidt, Mark Jerden, Jim Swiderski and Bob Doernberg all chipped in with 2 hits.  Warren Fuchs had a key 2 out RBI single.  Tom Sikora had a hit and scored 2 runs.  Scott Comer had a hit and made a nice running catch in right centerfield.  Yes, he did fall down after catching the ball.

The Blue Jays and Eagles again  played a very close and exciting game.  The Blue Jays won again by a score of 10 to 9 in a nine inning game.

The Eagles fell behind early and had a horrific second inning by giving up five runs after getting the first two players out.  The Eagles trailed 8-2 going into the sixth inning and scored two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh but could not score in the ninth inning resulting in the Blue Jay walking away with a win of 10 to 9.

The Eagles were led by Ed Brandriff who was four for four with a triple.  Barry Winsor had four hits including a double and also contributed with his fine pitching.  The Eagles also had five players with two hits each also Andy Cohen, Bob Esterly  Doug Rutter and Bill Howland with a double and Dale Cassidy just missing a third hit and winning the game for us.
